Abstract
Lignin as a polysaccharide has been chemically modified by graft copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) an aqueous medium using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator under argon atmosphere. Evidence of grafting was obtained by comparison of FTIR and TGA spectra of initial substrates and superabsorbent hydrogel. Moreover, morphology of the samples was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
